More than 3,700 billion VND to build a bridge connecting Saigon South with the center

The Nguyen Khoai bridge - road project is proposed to be adjusted due to a change in scale, leading to a total investment increase of VND 3,725 billion, compared to the approved level 7 years ago of VND 1,250 billion. If approved, the project is expected to start construction in Q4/2024, fully completed in 3 years.

According to the pre-feasibility study report adjusting the project, Nguyen Khoai bridge - road has a total length of nearly 5 km. In particular, the bridge is about 2.5 km long, 6.5-25.5 m wide; The road section is more than 2.3 km long, 26.5-61.5 m wide.

The project will start from D1 road (connecting Saigon University with Nguyen Van Linh Street and Him Lam residential area, District 7), then the main bridge over Canal Te goes overhead by viaduct along Nguyen Khoai street. The bridge continues to cross Ben Nghe canal connecting to Vo Van Kiet street, District 1, following two branches N7 and N8. Other branches were also built connecting through District 4.

According to the above plan, Nguyen Khoai bridge - road will reduce congestion for internal routes in District 4, sharing traffic pressure with roads from District 7, 8, Nha Be district to the city center such as Khanh Hoi - Kenh Te - Nguyen Huu Tho bridge, Nguyen Van Cu - Duong Ba Trac bridge.

Currently, the traffic connection between the South area and the center of Ho Chi Minh City is mainly through Nguyen Huu Tho - Kenh Te bridge and Tan Thuan - Nguyen Tat Thanh bridge. These roads are already severely overcrowded, leading to frequent congestion.

In addition to the bridge - Nguyen Khoai street, at the upcoming thematic meeting of the City People's Council, a series of other projects are expected to also be approved for investment policies including: Ring Road 2, the section from Vo Nguyen Giap Street to Pham Van Dong (total capital of more than VND 4,500 billion); upgrade and expand Nguyen Thi Dinh street, Giong To bridge section to My Thuy roundabout (nearly VND 2,100 billion); expansion of Do Xuan Hop street (862 billion); expanding Vinh Loc street (Binh Chanh district), total capital of more than VND 4,300 billion...
